What are the benefits of being an NBCT in AR?

Arkansas NBCT Financial Incentives

Arkansas has a tiered financial incentives program based on the location at where the NBCT teachers who certify after 2018 receive:

  • $2,500 annually (for five years) if they do not teach in a high-poverty school
  • $5,000 annually (for five years) if they teach in a high-poverty school not located in a high-poverty district
  • $10,000 (for 10 years) annually if they teach in a high-poverty school in a high-poverty district

More than 100+ Arkansas public school districts offer additional incentives for National Board Certification (NBCT). For more information on this, contact the district or state department for Arkansas to find out the most current incentives.  Contact your central office to find out what support is available in your district.

State Recognition

Educational Credits

Universities in Arkansas frequently provide graduate credit to teachers pursuing National Board Certification, including Harding University (6 credit hours) and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Be sure to check with your local university to see if it offers credit for NBCTs.

NBPTS Support Options

There are many opportunities for teachers to get support with the National Board Certification Process, and surprisingly they are not only found within your district. Online cohorts and Professional Development have been around for several years, including Tracey Bryant Stuckey offering support for Component 3 and Component 4 within the Initial Certification and Renew Like a Pro for candidates who are renewing certification through the Maintenance of Certification.
