Colorado NBCT Financial Incentives
Colorado is one of the states that offers a stipend for National Board Certified Teachers. Colorado offers a stipend of $1,600 for educators who hold a valid certificate from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Educators employed in high-need schools receive an additional $3,200, for a total stipend of $4,800 for NBCTs who teach in Priority Improvement Plan or Turnaround Plan schools. All stipends are subject to availability of funding and annual legislative approval.
State Recognition
Colorado has traditionally recognized National Board Certification through the state’s three-tiered licensure system. Colorado teachers who hold a professional license and achieve National Board Certification are eligible for Master Teacher certification, which extends the term for state license renewal from five to seven years. In addition, professional development activities related to National Board Certification may be used for license renewal. For new Colorado educators, a valid National Board certificate is accepted for reciprocity to issue a Colorado Professional License, provided certain requirements are met. Educational Credits
Some Universities in Colorado accept NB Certification to provide graduate credit to teachers pursuing National Board Certification. Check with your local Colorado university to see if graduate credit is a possibility for you.

Colorado has several different opportunities for teachers to get support with the National Board Certification Process in the state. Some districts offer support within their districts, while others do not. Candidates who are currently going through the Maintenance of Certification hile Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Process are able to work through the the Renew Like a Pro cohort.
