What are the benefits of being an NBCT in HI?

Hawaii NBCT Financial Incentives                 

Hawaii is one of the states that recognizes and provides NBCTs in Hawaii  with annual stipends. Teachers who are Nationally Board Certified receive a $5,000 annual stipend and those who teach in designated high-need schools receive an additional $5,000. This could result in a $10,000 annual stipend for teachers in this situation.

State Recognition    

The Hawaii State Teacher Standards Board recognizes National Board Certification. They have deemed that this fulfills the renewal requirements for state certification. It also counts as credit toward earning an advanced teaching license. For more information on this, visit the HSTB website.

Educational Credits               

Many universities in Hawaii do provide graduate credit hours to teachers who are pursuing National Board Certification. Be sure to check with your local Hawaii university to find out if the specific university provides this option for you. 

NBPTS Support Options

Many districts within Hawaii offer support for teachers looking to achieve NBPTS Certification or National Board MOC. Teachers looking for support for NBPTS have many options, however these supports may be limited depending on the location within Hawaii.
