National Board Certified Teacher

Idaho

State of Idaho

Idaho ranks 39th out of all states with the number of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT). This number includes both initial certification and those who have been through the Maintenance of Certification for National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Some of the highest districts in Idaho within the NBPTS Network include:

  1. Boise City Independent #1
  2. Moscow #281
  3. West Ada
  4. Coeur D’Alene #271
  5. Twin Falls #411

What are the benefits of being an NBCT in ID?

Idaho NBCT Financial Incentives

National Board Certified Teachers in Idaho receive a $2,000 annual bonus, for the first five years of certification. After this five year period, and teachers go through with the Maintenance of Certification process, the individual school districts have the option of continuing to pay this annual bonus, which typically comes from using district funds or money for leadership or hard-to-staff position bonuses. To verify, make sure that you check with your school’s principal or administrator to see if the district offers financial incentives for National Board Certification.

State Recognition

In many states, NB certification meets the requirements for initial  and/or advanced teacher certification. This also goes for license renewal. Make sure to check with the Idaho’s State Department of Education for the official policies surrounding the National Board for Teachers certification.

Educational Credits

Many universities provide graduate credit to teachers pursuing and successfully completing the National Board Certification. Make sure to check with your local Idaho University to verify if graduate credit is a possibility for completing the NBCT process. The University of Idaho Moscow does provide six credit hours towards graduate credit for this. Visit the university website for more information.

NBPTS Support Options

Some districts within Idaho support teachers looking to achieve NBPTS Certification or National Board MOC. Teachers looking for support for NBPTS have many options, however these supports may be limited depending on the geographic location within Idaho. Online Cohorts and programs, by Tracey Bryant Stuckey have aided a number of teachers all across the nation. Tracey offers Initial Candidate programs for your  Component 4 and Component 3. Renewal candidates going through the NB MOC are encouraged to join Renew Like a Pro, and work along other teachers in the nation going through MOC themselves.
