Illinois NBCT Financial Incentives
Currently, Illinois teachers who are considered EBF Tier 1 and Tier 2 Rural and Remote teachers are eligible for a one-time $3000 Incentive bonus. This went into effect as part of Illinois Public Act 101-0333 on January 1, 2020. Be sure to check with the Illinois State Department of Education to find out if you are eligible and for the most current information on financial incentives offered to Illinois teachers.
State Recognition
Illinois is one of the states that recognizes National Board Certification for Teachers. NBCTs can earn credit toward a National Board endorsement on a professional license and toward license renewal. Illinois also offers full reciprocity for out-of-state teachers. The minimum requirements for an Illinois Professional Educator License for educators trained in other states include a bachelor's degree and a comparable and valid educator license or certificate.
Educational Credits
Some universities in Illinois provide graduate credit hours to teachers pursuing National Board Certification. Be sure that you check with your local Illinois university to see if graduate credit is possible for pursuing National Board Certification through NBPTS.
