Missouri ranks number 24 out of the 50 total states with the number of National Board Certification amongst teachers. This ranking includes both renewal through Maintenance of Certification and initial NBPTS Portfolio process.

Missouri NBCT Financial Incentives
Many school districts within Missouri provide stipends or salary lane changes for teachers who are Nationally Board Certified. In fact, Over 70 Missouri school districts offer these financial incentives. For a list of these districts make sure to check out the Missouri NEA’s webpage, under Additional Information. For the most up to date information, be sure to reach out to the local school district.
State Recognition
In Missouri, National Board Certification can count toward obtaining a Career Continuous Professional certificate and toward renewal of the certificate. Missouri does not require professional development plans for teachers who meet several criteria. Two of the following criteria must be met for this exemption: National Board Certification, ten years of teaching experience, and/or a master’s degree.
Educational Credits
A number of universities in Missouri offer graduate credit hours to teachers pursuing National Board Certification. Be sure to check with your local university to see if graduate credit is a possibility. One of these universities includes, Webster University. They offer in-service courses (three to nine hours) for candidates pursuing National Board Certification. For more details, contact the university. Be sure to do this at the start of the process so that you can make proper arrangements for these credit hours.
NBPTS Support Options
NBPTS support offerings are available in many areas of Missouri. All candidates are encouraged to join in a cohort or collaborate with others during the process. NBPTS MOC candidates going through renewal are invited to join Renew Like a Pro. This Professional Development experience is for those completing NB MOC process and offers collaboration from teachers across the nation. For Missouri teachers wanting support with the initial NBPTS certification are invited to join one or both of Tracey Bryant Stuckey's Professional Development courses for Creating your Component 3 Portfolio: Teaching and Learning in the Classroom or Creating your Component 4 Portfolio: Assessment Drives Instruction course. These Professional Development experiences are all available with asynchronous components and optional synchronous group coaching collaboration sessions.
