What are the benefits of being an NBCT in SD?

South Dakota NBCT Financial Incentives                 

National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) and counselors within the state of South Dakota are eligible to receive a $2000 annual stipend that is good for at least five years (the length of the certificate). This stipend is paid half by the school district and half by the State Department of Education. For the most current information, be sure to visit the South Dakota Department of Education website.              

State Recognition    

South Dakota is one of the states that recognizes National Board Certification. This certification may be used to count as credit toward obtaining or renewing a 10-year teaching license within the South Dakota. 

Educational Credits               

Universities frequently provide graduate credit to teachers pursuing National Board Certification. Check with your local South Dakota university to see if credit is possible in your situation.
