What are the benefits of being an NBCT in TN?

Tennessee NBCT Financial Incentives                 

Tennessee is one of the states that provides financial incentives to candidates. These include an initial certification bonus and yearly stipends for NBCTs. Annual salary bonuses vary depending on school, county, and district. The most common incentives range from approximately $500 to $6,000. Districts in each region of Tennessee offer these incentives including 12 districts in East Tennessee, 10 in Middle Tennessee, and 7 districts in West Tennessee. Be sure to check with your local Tennessee district to see what is available for you. 

State Recognition    

Tennessee is one of the states recognizing National Board Certification. Teachers who hold a valid professional license from the state and a have achieved National Board Certification are eligible for a professional certificate from the state. This certificate may be renewed as long as the teacher holds a current and valid National Board Certification and meets other requirements set forth by the Tennessee State Department of Education.           

Educational Credits               

Some universities in Tennessee may grant teachers completing the NBPTS Process, Continuing Education Unit equivalents to teachers. Be sure to check with your local university in Tennessee to see what options are available for you.

NBPTS Support Options

Many districts in Tennessee offer National Board Certification support for initial candidates and those renewing through the MOC process. If you are a teacher going through either NBPTS process, be sure to  sign up for one of Tracey Bryant Stuckey's NBCT Professional Development Programs.
