Utah NBCT Financial Incentives
National Board Certified Teachers in Utah are recognized within the state and receive annual stipends. Teachers holding a valid NB certification in Title I schools receive a $2,000 annual stipend will others in the state receive an annual $1,000 stipend. Be sure to check with your local district as a number of local Utah districts offer other bonuses to candidates who complete their National Board Certification.
State Recognition
Since Utah recognizes National Board Certification, teachers in Utah who have attained a Level 2 license and achieve NB Certification are eligible to move up to a Level 3 Professional Educator License. This Level 3 licensure is valid for the life of the certificate including renewals as long as the teacher has a valid certification with NBPTS.
Educational Credits
Some universities provide graduate credit to teachers pursuing and successfully completing the National Board Certification. Be sure to confirm details with your local Utah university to ensure that this credit is available for you, as this is not offered at all universities within the state of Utah.
NBPTS Support Options
Some districts within Utah provide coaching and support for teachers looking to achieve NBPTS Certification or National Board MOC. Online cohorts and programs, especially those hosted by Tracey Bryant Stuckey have aided many teachers across the nation including some in Utah. Tracey offers two different programs for Initial Candidate certification in Component 4 and Component 3. Renewal candidates in the NB MOC are invited to join Renew Like a Pro, and work alongside other teachers in the nation going through MOC. At the completion of these programs, teachers will have a final portfolio.
