Vermont, number 45 nationally, is a state that is growing with the total number of National Board Certified Teachers. Teachers who hold a valid NBPTS certification through either the initial process or Maintenance of Certification process are included in this figure.

Vermont NBCT Financial Incentives                 

Some states offer financial support, bonuses, and stipends to teachers who attempt and achieve the National Board Certification Process. Some local districts with Vermont may offer financial incentives. Be sure to check to see if this is an option within your local school district or see what is available for you. Currently NBPTS is looking for teachers to help advocate for stronger financial incentives in order to pay teachers what they deserve for this rigorous, yet rewarding certification.  

State Recognition    

Vermont is one of the states recognizing National Board Certification. Teachers holding valid NBPTS Certificates can serve as a credit toward obtaining and renewing a Level I or Level II license in the state of Vermont. 

Educational Credits               

A number of universities offer a graduate credit hours for teachers who complete the National Board Certification process. In fact the Vermont- NEA has partnered with Southern New Hampshire University and Castleton University to offer credit-bearing classes to support candidates seeking their Initial NBPTS certification. Vermont-NEA members taking the course are able to receive scholarships for up to two components if the teacher is taking the class for three credits and four components if taking the class for six credits. NBPTS Support Options

A number of districts within Vermont. The Union of Vermont Educators believes in the importance of working with a mentor and others going through the NBPTS process or renewal. There are many Candidate Support Providers in Vermont that are both in-person and virtual. Regardless of your choice, be sure to work together or find a mentor to help you along the process. Tracey Bryant Stuckey offers support to teachers located in Vermont as well and across the United States (including those teachers who teach abroad) with offerings for Initial and MOC candidates. These support options include:

Teachers receive a weekly calendar of what to watch with in the asynchronous course and "homework".  By the end of each these 12-week programs with the ability to add on synchronous group coaching with Tracey and other teachers in a virtual safe place, you will have a completed NBPTS Portfolio ready for submission.
