Overall West Virginia has a great benefits for being an National Board Certified Teacher. West Virginia gives teachers an annual state salary bonus of $3,500 for those who hold a valid certificate from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and are employed in a West Virginia Public School. Additionally, teachers will receive another $2,000 for teaching in high-needs schools. Teachers must request this salary supplement. State Recognition    

West Virginia recognizes National Board Certification in the state and this qualification can count toward obtaining a permanent professional license. Additionally, the designation of NB Certification on a professional teaching certificate provides a route for the state to verify that a teacher meets the standards of a highly qualified teacher.

Educational Credits               

Universities across the United States may or may not provide  graduate credit for teachers completing National Board Certification. Luckily, West Virginia is one that does give you the option. The West Virginia Department of Education offers up to six graduate credits. Be sure to visit the Education Department's website for more information and an updated contact.
